More Pilanesberg

Kurts favourite animal to see is the Rhino - and I guarantee that this one made his day!

Warthogs: My Grangee collected warthogs. She had a shrine dedicated to the warthog and every time we came across a carving of a warthog, or a warthog key-ring etc. it was hard not to buy it and take it along next time we visited Grangee on the 8th floor of Stromboli Flats in Durban. Here it would find a home and be loved. Grangee said she loved warthogs because someone had to.... they are so ugly. This was all long before the Lion King made the warthog famous and endearing ... sort of!

The Rhino: We have a Rhino standing majestically over our fireplace. Actually it is competing with a Thanksgiving Turkey that Julia made in preschool last year! But seriously... and this is serious because for Kurt this Rhino is valued up there with his other 3 children. I can't say which is worth more to him but I am very slightly above it (most days). I know this because I knocked it off the stairway once, in Oregon: The horn shattered into probably 50 pieces - no, more -tiny splinters of wood. We kept all the pieces in a Ziploc bag for weeks and the Rhino stood with a fake horn of clay (made by Kurt who could not leave him impotent). I made a comment that we should probably just throw away the wooden splinters and that week Kurt put it back together. We are still married - and that is how I know I rank higher than the Rhino.
