A week ago I took Liam in to the peadiatrician for a "well child" visit. As it turned out he had a horrible cold that started a couple of days previous though and was pouring snot so consistently there was no way to keep up with tissues. During the visit I was asked if he throws a ball underhand and whether he walks backwards. I answered affirmative with much confidence only to be stumped by the next question. Does he say many words? No, barely any really. Does he say 10 words? I started listing the words he says ... I could come up with 6. I was informed it is normal for children to say 10 - 20 words at his age (18 months) and the ped encouraged to me look into an early childhood intervention program and possibly an ENT for hearing testing should his speech not improve soon. I was somewhat disturbed and when I got home I challenged kurt on skype:
"how many words can Liam say "... his swift reply :"none!"
It has taken me a week to come up with the following 10 "words" that Liam says... I don't include "dah" which can mean almost anything;)
uh oh (something fell)
mamma
Ooya (Julia)
Lala or just La these days (Mila)
Ow (hurt)
ee oooo (peek a boo)
pappa
heyo (hello)
NO
hey (when I poke him in the tummy)
So now, giggling at myself, I can move on!!

thank goodness I can breath with you again.
Sometimes we stress & work ourselves up way to quickly about things when it comes to our kids
My paediatrician said the exact same thing to me when Jared was 18 months! He's 2 yrs and 5 months now and talks the hindleg off a donkey. New words coming out of his mouth daily!
So don't stress!!!!! These docs make us stress for nothing!
