Stairs

Yes, today was a busy day.... and Liam refused to nap. At 5:30 he gathered his blankets and lay down right at the bottom of the the stairs, sucked his thumb three times and passed out. I watched from a few metres away, folding washing. "Liam, wake up!" I demanded. My goal was to stretch him at least till 6pm in the hope he would sleep till morning. But nothing was going to wake him. At a later time I tried to transfer him to his bed but he woke up miserable and insisted I hold him for hours. I didn't mind. I needed him close. There was some pleasure in being unable to accomplish anything but indulging mutual comfort. He needed comfort due to the exhaustion of missing a nap and waking up disorientated. I needed comfort because he missed his nap too ...

In the rush to leave in time for an "open house" at Mila's school... it seemed that the 5 minutes Kurt spent snapping pics of the kids on the stairs was at least 25. Despite Liam's seemingly co-operative manner in these photos.... he never actually sat still for a second. He was moving swiftly from top to bottom and then in reverse. This kept the girls moving to. Because who wants to be sitting still when one could be racing up and down stairs?
