Kurt's Birthday was last month: in the aftermath of Liam enduring an ear infection that sent us to an emergency room on a Friday night and two rounds of antibiotics... and in the midst of me braving out a UTI which progressed to a kidney infection a couple of days later. Suffice it to say that our celebration was simple. But I did manage to make a rather delicious Dutch Chocolate Cake from a recipe Kurt usurped over a year ago (maybe 2?) when a colleague brought the taste bud seducing Cake to work.
As children do... mine had been making great plans for a neighbourhood surprise party in Kurt's honour. I was indulging them until, sleep deprived and plagued by all the wonderful things that come along with UTI's, I realised that inviting all the neighbours into my unkempt home was not the stress free option. The neighbourhood children, however, are always welcome. They seem to be totally unaware that the toilet hadn't been cleaned in three weeks and relish in the fact that there was still a ladder in the lounge from painting days previous. In fact, the ladder became part of an act they choreographed just for the birthday occasion. This was performed after the initial "SURPRISE" Kurt experienced on his arrival home from work. I was given instructions to "sneeze loudly" when Kurt arrived home and send him promptly up to Mila's bedroom ... where 4 little girls lay in wait.
But really .. it was all about the cake. The cake that My Neighbour S came over just in time to help me ice ( frost!) and Julia decorated with strawberries when my back was turned.
