Four, Faeries and more Cake!

Julia turned 4 on the 16th, it was Sunday and the day after Mrs S and I hosted a babyshower for Mrs Sz. It was also Kurt and my wedding anniversary on the Sat... all of the above kept me pretty busy for a week... so Julia's party was delayed till the following Saterday.

She requested a faerie cake ... and because you only turn 4 once, I obliged! It is supposed to be a faerie sitting on a log faerie house. Julia approved - mission accomplished.

She recieved a number of fragile faerie ornaments
as a gift and the joined in the faerie cake fun. I cringed as I imagined cleaning up the pieces.... but they have lasted 5 days now and she loves playing delicately with them.

One little faerie did not quite make the party - the fondant cake faerie was claimed by the birthday girl... but it was soon discovered that fondant icing is not that delicious! And this is where one of my favourite parts of the day comes in : that night Mila observed .." The cake was very beautiful mom, but it did not taste that great"
me - " yip, fondant icing is not that tasty - quite a waste of time to make a pretty cake that doesn't taste wonderful, huh? How did you like the chocolate cake?"
"It was a bit too chocolaty" (Mila does not have much of a sweet tooth). I concurred.
"So have you been thinking of what kind of cake you would like for your birthday?"
"Yes, I think I would like the cake inside Ms Sz baby shower cake (white cake) ... without the fondant"
Yay!! Simple and tasty - that is MY kind of cake. I think I will easily talk her into cream cheese icing.

Your cake really did look so good - you need to be in some sort of baking contest! You are a pro! And even though it was too chocolate-y for you, it was one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever had. Of course, I'm a chocolate nut - but it was really good! I need a recipe. The gallette (sp?) was also delicious. I'm drooling just thinking of all your yummy desserts. :) I'm glad Julia had a fun birthday! She's a cutie!
