The Birthday Party

A castle fit for a Princess

We had Mila's 6th Birthday Party yesterday. It was really fun - friends joined us for hot dogs and cake. It is wonderful to have space to have a party at home.
Mila had requested a princess party ... with a castle cake. To be honest I am not an enthusiastic cake baker... and an even less enthusiastic (or creative) cake decorator. So Kurt endured a painstaking few days of complaining as I turned out two rectangular brownie cakes and 2 X 2 layer cakes to make a sufficiently stately castle. Then a remarkably short night of groaning as I put it all together and slapped on the icing .... yes it wasn't quite as hard as I had made myself believe it would be. Truth is ... this is the first birthday cake I have made and decorated ...that was not cupcakes. Kurt is more creative and detail orientated than I am and has taken over in the past when it has come to decorating. He did a fine job at a Magenta Cake for Mila's 3rd Birthday (from Blues Clues) and has been the family cake decorator since in my mind. Kurt has been swamped with work, however, so I had to take this on and ... well I must say I was quite pleased with the result!
