I was walking down the driveway last night when a frog hopped across in front on me. I had Liam in my arms (that is my excuse) so I called the man of the house to come and get it so that we could show the girls. Just minutes before this happened, we had been listening to the frogs croaking and saying how nice it would be to go to have some frogs living around our little pond ... and some tadpoles. A great science project you know.
Kurt obliged and by the time I came indoors I found the frog in the steamer.
No- it was not on -just a convenient container, apparently perfect for containing a frog. Kurt was holding it with a "please don't hit me over the head" look on his face, quick to explain that it was in the colander first but it jumped out and so he put it in the steamer. Apparently that was supposed to make me feel better about the situation!!
Mila found the frog quite adorable as you can see - yes actually kissed it ... more than once. She looked horrified when Kurt told her now she was going to get warts on her lips, so told her that was nonsense ... but she would probably marry a prince.
"REALLY Mom" she said, delighted!
This morning Julia woke up and immediately wanted to go outside and see if the frog was still in the pond. It was not. Mila has decided that is has gone back to its family and will bring them all to live in our back yard.

Your story reminded me a bit of something that happened with Willa this past weekend. We have been nurturing a pair of caterpillars since late last fall, and have been eagerly awaiting the day when they would cocoon and become butterflies. We did everything according to the directions we found on the web, but last weekend I finally had to admit to Willa that I didn't think they were going to become butterflies, that they were, alas, dead.
She took it HARD. Big, shuddering sobs and tears for her two deceased fuzzy friends. I held her and tried to comfort her with thoughts of caterpillar heaven. I didn't think she would EVER get over it!!
Finally, I did what every good mother does when all else fails...distracted her with TV! Clicking thru channels, I found the last few minutes of ET (the movie about a cute little extraterrestrial, not Entertainment Tonight!!). We were just in time to see ET help the boys make their bikes magically fly, meet the Mother Ship and utter the phrase, "I'll be right here" (pointing to Elliots's forehead). Phew! Nothing adverts a crisis like a good sci-fi treatment!
