WARNING - Yoga leads to vegetarianism!

For the past two weeks I have seriously been considering becoming Vegetarian. Today I was planning some meals from a website http://www.theveggietable.com/recipes. . As I was going back and forth I came across a yoga link. Odd, I thought, and proceeded to investigate.

"Yoga practitioners tend to become more in tune with their bodies and realize that when they eat meat, they feel less healthy than when they don't. Thus the more advanced a person's yoga practice, the more likely it is that s/he is a vegetarian."

Interesting....
My yoga practice has picked up since December. We got a great deal at a 24 hour fitness nearby and they offer FREE childcare. Their yoga classes are fantastic and incredibly challenging. Most of the yoga I have done to this point has been relatively easy stuff, focusing mainly on breathing and stretching... very relaxing and very wonderful. At this gym they have a number of excellent instructors and the classes are challenging yoga workouts ( as well as breathing and relaxation).

A few weeks ago I got thinking about a post I came across on the Word of Wisdom. For those of you do not belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints, this is a health code that was revealed through a prophet, Joseph Smith in 1833. Read it all here if you wish!
We believe this "health code" code is the word of God given for our benefit. It is not considered a commandment /compulsory to follow it. But if you really believe it is God's word revealed why wouldn't you? Therein it says:

12"Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless to be used sparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used , only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine."

I am not making the outright commitment to become vegetarian at this point. I have been very aware of late that eating meat does not make me feel good though. I plan to make meat a once a week thing starting out and see where that takes us.

Kurt, my dear husband, who is loading up on biltong, dry wors and lamb shank in South Africa at the moment will probably only get to read this on Thursday when he gets back to Johannesburg and has easy access to Internet once again. At this time he will think : "How could all this happen in 13 days - I knew I never should have left her alone for so long " hahaha ;)

And yes ... he has the camera with him ... which is the cause of too many words and not enough pictures on this blog!! But can you imagine all the pics I will have to post when he gets back.

My family will never become vegetarians because my dear sweet hubby proclaims that without meat, he just can't get full. And honestly, I really, really like meat! But I do have a few meat-free dishes that even John likes. I'll send them on if you are interested.

I am trying out vegetarianism for a month as a winter weight loss strategy. I've had a few slip-ups but it's been going relatively well. I haven't noticed that I feel bad when I eat meat, sometimes I totally crave it actually, but I do remember that in college, when I couldn't often afford red meat, I would get a tummy ache when I finally did eat it. Hmmmmm . . . I do think that we, as a society eat too much of it. The Word of Wisdom thing bothers me too.
