Fossil Rim

Last Saterday our family took a 2 hour drive to a "game park". We were excited to go to a drive through park but prepared to be disappointed - you just cannot compete with the Kruger National Park. As we arrived and were parking, Mila asked if there were lions in the park. Kurt and I both said "no".

Julia reponded: "If there were then they would eat us... and we would be dinner!"


When we got inside to pay they asked us if we would like a bag of food to feed the animals... Kurt and I were hesitant. We have a healthy respect for animals. The lady checking us in said we could HAND FEED the Giraffe!! SO we took the food and set out on our adventure. It was fun ... but yes also a disappiontment. There were Cheetah behind high fences and the Rhino were also enclosed. The buck (or deer) were all over the place though. It was fun to see some animals from Asia, India and Russia that we were not familiar with. And yes, we hand fed the Giraffe!

There was a "petting zoo" for kids in the middle of the park. Our favourite animal there was a 22 year old African Tortoise. Liam was particularly entertained by it (which was, in turn, quite entertaining for us!) We also managed to let an opportunistic goat escape when we entered ...

AAAH the African Rhino .... the main reason we had to go. Good to see you buddie.
