Last year I noticed that Texas gets a bug I am very familiar with from home (Jhb). The Christmas Beetle. These harmless bugs are very noisy as they hit themselves into windows etc and are called June Bugs here (for obvious reasons!). Just the other night Kurt and I were on a date to get the mail (no children en tow), when we noticed the grass was covered with frogs and toads. Close to the ground, hundreds of Christmas Beetles were buzzing back and forth. We got a front row seat and watched the frogs hop to and fro gobbling up the beetles and, on occasion, bumping into each other. It looked rather uncomfortable. I am sure that I saw a beetle buzzing inside a frog's bloated abdomen. With eyes bulging more that usual, the frog stretched out it's neck in an effort to narrow the escape route. Having watched too many Walt Disney Movies, I half expected the little beetle to overcome the frog and emerge victorious after fighting it's way back up the throat and then from the relenting frog's open mouth. But that did not happen.
