Uninvited!

This pic was taken through a window panel in our back door. The Raccoon was slightly put out by the flash and did blink it's eyes. But I bet if I opened the door it would just come right in and make itself at home!
I am not particularly fond of this visitor. It comes by almost every night and climbs inside the trash can to go through the trash. Currently the delicacy is Christmas beetles and that is what it is catching at the against the windows. My concern is that is is fishing in our pond though. I have not seen this, but our fish are very skittish and we have only seen two goldfish lately....
The heat makes the pond quite murky too so I am hoping the koi are just swimming a little deeper. Yes, I know, the eternal optimist;)

A couple of months ago there was a distressing noise coming from the ceiling in the living room. I threw things at it in an attempt to dissuade the animal making the raucous to retreat. But apparently to no avail. Recently I have heard what I think is the squeaking of baby squirrels. And while climbing a tree the other day I saw this - the critter entrance. After reviewing our options of repairing the chimney and ending up with dead baby squirrels in the roof; Or poison; or traps. I have been waiting it out, sure that when it is 130 degrees Fahrenheit in the ceiling, the squirrels will voluntarily move out. Then we can fix their hole. But the past 2 weeks have been between 90 and 100 Fahrenheit every day and they still haven't moved. Next step ...?

You are certainly having your share of 'animal infestation' there... and those temperatures! .. thank heavens you have a pool to cool off in.

I feel like you guys live in another country because of all the wildlife you see - racoons, frogs, toads, hundreds of june bugs, squirrels in your attic, etc. We only have birds and rabbits just a few short miles away from you. :) My kids would definitely love all the excitement at your house!!
