I needed some inspiration today so I have been looking at friend's blogs. One of my favourite things is to read the things children say... I always think I will remember when my children say funny things. But inevitably, after Kurt and I have laughed about it, those moments seem to slip away. Kurt is encouraging me to continue with the blogging for that reason. Kurt showed his support by downloading songs for the blog last night.... hope you enjoy!
Mila is practicing guitar. She was supposed to start her first lesson last week .. but then it snowed and Dallas came to a halt. Tomorrow will be her first lesson. I am excited... and nervous ( I really hope I like her new teacher- and that she does, of course) ... isn't she the one who is supposed to be feeling like this?
Kurt has put in a link here for a video he took of Mila playing her newest song for him after her first guitar lesson here: "Brother John" you can here Julia and Liam both given their input in the background!

Last night I made Sheperds Pie for dinner. Actually it is the first time I have made it and it turned out well. I made a Rachel Ray recipe I found on foodnetwork.com and used ground lamb. We often ask the girls what their most favourite and worst part of the day was before they go to bed. (This was what my Dad used to do when he tucked us in at night.) Last night Mila told Kurt her favourite thing was dinner - she said it was her favourite food EVER. So I felt all warm inside. This was a big achievement because Mila usually refuses to eat cooked carrots or peas (and butternut and spinach). I have discovered I can get her to eat almost anything if I make it into a smiley face. Luckily she has quite an imagination so it can be a rather abstract face! I put 2 carrot circles on the top of the potato, and some peas to make a mouth. Then a circle of butternut was the sun and a few spinach leaves (from salad) was a tree that the sweet, happy little girl was resting under to stay cool in the sun. Well, she had seconds and then wanted leftovers for lunch again today. What a wonderful end to a meal I thought would be difficult to get her to eat!
Mila'ism
Mila got distracted and left a half eaten apple for a couple of hours and came back to find it starting to go brown:
Mom can you cut off the parts of the apple that have been exposed to air?
Julia woke up the other morning way too early and told me she had a rat in her room during the night and wanted to know what Papa had done with it. I told her Papa had let it go outside to be with it's family. This was the quickest thing I could think of that would not progress to a long conversation and get her back to sleep. It seemed to be a good enough explanation to her and she did go straight back to bed. When she woke again a couple of hours later, she told us how the mouse had slept with her in her bed and it was a friendly mouse and even took Mila upstairs to see if they could find it.
Truly Julia is the only rat I know of in this house - if we leave the cheese out on the counter(while making sandwiches or dinner or something) she manages to bite chunks off without us even seeing her!

That apostrophe on Mila'ism is a good idea, otherwise I would have been like, "huh?" What's a Milaism? It's just not easy when the name ends in a vowel is it? I saw Elana at the R.S. B-day dinner tonight. She said she saw your landscaped backyard via a webcam video tour or some such? What's that about? And when are you having us all over, anyway? :)
Hi - you are welcome ANY time. I would suggest you avoid July and August though from what I have been told those are not fun months here! But right now the weather is gorgeous and Mila would just LOVE a visit from Beren. She was telling me last night how much she misses him!! (and some game she played at your house ;). If you just want to visit us online ... do you ahve a webcam?? Download skype or msn messenger (both are free and we use both all the time to communicate with family and friends etc!!
